Would you rather have your president be fat or your lawyer be a terrible speller?

Lawyer be terrible speller. I wouldn't wish for bad health for anybody.

President fat. Some of the most brilliant and competent people I know are fat, and I think it would be good for America to see someone like that in such a powerful position. Especially if the fat president were female.

Lawyer as a terrible speller. Because I'm a terrible speller and plan to be a lawyer. But there are all sorts of ways to compensate for being a terrible speller: look things up, spell-check, have an editor.

The only way I could spell things growing up was to sit and memorize the word. The rules of spelling mean nothing to me (probably because they were never taught at my school). This approach worked well for me until I started to lose my nearly photographic memory. I'm like Roald Dahl's Matilda: once my brain was challenged (and possibly sleep deprived) it started to lose its special powers. Either that or I got old. I prefer to think it was the former. Way cooler if I'm like Matilda.

President fat. Those people who draw political cartoons would have a hey day. Hay day? Or hey dey?

I should not become a lawyer.

This reminds me of the closing thoughts to a college molecular biology class. A student asked if the upcoming test would require correct spelling. The professor answered by sharing a story which I will now share with you:

The professor's son works as a lawyer in northern VA. A judge wrote a letter to the lawyer son on his ruling of the case at hand. The son was mad (1) because the ruling was not in his favor, but his anger was inflamed by the numerous spelling errors throughout the letter.

that's all

Fat president.

There is this law office in Cincinnati that says: "Whoever and Whoever, Attorney's at Law." There is major family drama around that sign because I think it is so offensive.

Remind me to tell you the story someday.

A fat president, of course. A fat president is just the same as eny other president, while a lawyer with bad splelling can get you in real trouble. I don't partecipate in fat-hatred...my best friend is fat and healthy, and happy with herself.
